Elephant & Castle 'will get a new town centre'

The new owners of the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre have indicated that a Westfield-style redevelopment is not part of their plans, according to reports.

Stafford Lancaster, a dirctor at Delancey, told a public meeting at the weekend that while the real-estate investors plans were to “demolish and redevelop” the current building, it wanted to deliver a “new town centre” that was “relevant to the area”, website SE1 reported.

It said Lancaster had told the session Delancey intended to submit a detailed planning application for the scheme by the end of the year.
