Leisure facilities proposed for Canada Water

The developer British Land and Southwark Council are in early discussions to build a new leisure centre as part of the regeneration of Canada Water.

In the meantime, repairs and maintenance work are ongoing at the current leisure centre for the area, called Seven Islands. Full details of plans for the Canada Water centre are set to emerge later this year.

This marks the latest development in the council’s pledge to prioritise healthy living, after it offered a free swim and gym session to all its residents at any of its leisure centres earlier in the year.

Councillor Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for public health, parks and leisure said; "I'm delighted that we are in early discussions with British Land about providing a new leisure offer as part of their emerging plans for the area.

"It is also fantastic to be able to announce these improvement works for the existing centre – I'm sure it will all be an exciting prospect for residents in the area.”
